Dear Anna,
You started playing hide-and-seek with a diaper lately. You hold a cloth diaper over your head while some big silly adult keeps acting distressed and asking where you are. Then you triumphantly pull the diaper down and laugh. It's probably the cutest thing you've done to date. I also managed to peek under the diaper when you were playing with Daddy, and noticed that you have an extremely smug expression while you are "hidden".
Love you lots,
Mommy

Dear Alex,
You started school (preschool) a couple of weeks ago. It's a Montessori school, where you have a lot of freedom to decide what to do, but supposedly most things you can choose from are educational. You enjoy it a lot, even though you missed most of the first week after managing to catch a cold from Anna. The first day (8/25) was quite interesting. Both Daddy and I took you to school, where you went into your new classroom and the parents had to attend a looooong meeting. Your classroom is actually brand new and it only has one type of pet at this point, a large aquarium with some African Cichlids and other fish we don't know. You immediately started asking your teacher about the names of the fish. Since this was supposed to be a short schoolday, after about an hour and a half, all the students started coming out in orderly lines. Your class came out first, but we soon realized that you weren't anywhere in the line. We weren't terribly surprised (sorry), but after waiting for all the students to come out into the lobby area, you were still nowhere in sight. At that point we started to worry a bit, after all you have somewhat of a history of running away from daycare-like places. So we asked the director where you were, and she just told us to go to your room. In we went, and indeed, you were there. Since we had told you all about a normal day at school, you had decided that now that some kids have left, it was time to go get your lunch and eat it. The teacher was only slightly flustered and was mostly enjoying keeping you company while you sat at the little table eating your lunch at 10:30 in the morning. I had to leave before finding out whether you would insist on taking a nap since that's what you were supposed to do after eating lunch. Later I found out that you were pursuaded to go home at some point. Other than this first day, you've done really well in school (we haven't been called in for any mischief). You seem to like it -- on Saturday you were a bit worried that you would be terribly late for school. I hope you actually do more than "play and eat snacks", which is what you usually tell me when I ask you what you did at school. You already have a friend (at least know the name, which I won't try to spell).
Love,
Mommy
