Dear Anna,I don't know how you do this, but despite getting bigger and growing a lot of hair, you still look like a baby, a very oversized baby that knows too much... You are precious, but sometimes rather violent, as usual. You call me your "sweetie", which is cute, as are most things you do (except the body slams). You are very curious about everything, which is unfortunate for some of the more complicated things you take apart but fail to put back together, such as my very first laptop that Alex used successfully as a baby, and I foolishly thought it would survive anything, even you. I have learned my lesson, and your first (ok, second) computer will be a tablet -- no keyboard to tempt those little fingers.
You are a computer game player, too, although not as addicted as Alex. Your favorite things are playing the Zoombinis, watching someone else play Zooma, or watching the Pixar shorts (the sheep, the birds, and the baby, as you call them). You are a great helper around the house and never get bored watching me clean. :-) You love dressing up, but at the same time, no opportunity for acting like a little piggy is likely to be passed up. Perhaps that's why you like the beach so much, we actually let you wallow around and get as dirty as you want there.

Dear Alex,
A lot has happened since the summer. You loved our trip to Bulgaria, especially swimming in the Black Sea. You are already asking when we'd go again. You spent a lot of time swimming and were not afraid of going in the water all by yourself. I even took you snorkeling with me a few times and you absolutely loved it (more so than Daddy)! You liked a lot of other things, even the cows in Pavelsko, but not from too close.
You are reading better and faster, I think soon you can read those big chapter books all by yourself. But for now you still prefer to have one of us read them. You spend way too much time playing Star Wars real time simulation games. A couple of weeks ago you proudly announced: "I started The Confederacy all by myself!" Yes, not too bad for a 5 year old, especially taken together with the other major accomplishment for this period -- being able to tie your shoes all by yourself. You are, as usual, extremely eloquent, and a simple "yes" or "no" won't do when you can give a convoluted 3-sentence explanation. So I'm learning to be much more careful about how I say things, to avoid being told that "I was talking about costumes, not my behavior!" next time I start mixing dressing up and acting out.
We are getting ready for our trip to California this week. You were extremely excited to begin with since you thought you would be able to swim in the Blak Sea again, but were then slighly disappointed when I told you that it's only the Pacific Ocean, and probably too cold to swim in.
